Re: P&G Voluntary Recall of Specialize Dry Pet Foods Due to Possible Health Risk
To: Our Valued Clients
Proctor and Gamble Pet Care has released the following statement regarding the recall of their line of Iams Veterinary Dry Pet Foods:
"At Proctor & Gamble Pet Care, the welfare of consumers and pets is our first priority. Therefore, we are voluntarily recalling several specialized pet food products to help prevent any potential health concerns. Procter & Gamble Pet Care is voluntarily recalling Iams Veterinary Formula dry pet foods and select Eukanuba dry pet food as a precautionary measure because it has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. No salmonella related illnesses have been confirmed. The affected products represent a very small portion of P&G's pet food products.
The affected products are sold in veterinary clinics and specialty pet retailers throughout the United States and Canada. No canned food, biscuits/treats, or supplements were affected by this announcement.
These products are made in a single, specialized facility. In cooperation with the FDA, P&G determined that some of the products at this facility have the potential for salmonella contamination. As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling all products made at this facility.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this situation causes you and want to assure you that P&G is taking all the necessary steps to ensure our product quality meets all our customer and consumer expectations."
What does this mean for you, as a client? If you have any of the affected foods at home, please discard the food and talk to your veterinarian regarding the best alternative for your pet.
How are you reimbursed for the product you have already purchased? You can be reimbursed for previously purchased product by contact P&G Pet Care at 877.340.8823. The staff at this call center will give you directions on how to receive your reimbursement.
What are symptoms of salmonella? Pets with salmonella infection may experience decreased appetite, fever, abdominal pain and appear sluggish. More aggressive symptoms may include vomiting, bloody diarrhea and dehydration. People handling the food can also become infected, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product.
Affected products include: All Iams Veterinary Formula Diets (sold at your veterinarian's office) are included as well as Eukanuba Naturally Wild, Eukanuba Pure and Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin.
