Additionally, we offer a Senior Eye Examination Package which includes a Schirmer Tear Test and Tonometry Exam.
The Schirmer Tear Test measures the amount of tears produced by the lacrimal (tear) glands. A deficiency in tear production can cause keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eyes), a serious condition that leads to corneal problems and can eventually cause blindness.
The Tonometry Exam measures the amount of intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eyeball). Increased pressure inside the eyeball can lead to glaucoma, a disease of the eye that eventually leads to blindness.
